D2 New Player of the Year

#74 -- Alyssa Adamo, IUP

Alyssa was brand new to hockey this year and made the most improvements on the team. She started not even knowing how to skate or how to hold a stick. Alyssa stuck by her love of hockey and continued to learn the fundamentals and put them into action on the ice. By the end of the season, Alyssa always seemed to know exactly where to be at the right time, which helped out IUP a lot. She was quick to learn and asked questions when she didn’t understand a play or drill. Alyssa made huge strides into the game of hockey, which she wants to carry on into the following seasons.

#12 -- Efua Peterson, COLUMBIA

Efua loves the game of ice hockey and it truly seems to love her back. She went from working with the new skaters at the beginning of the season, to being a big part of our team by the end. She scored her first goals, hustled to everything, and picked up the game faster than most. She possesses natural talent and game instinct.  Efua is one of the strongest human beings I have ever seen on the ice.  She will continue to get better and better.

#35 -- Chrissy Small, SJU

After wanting to play hockey for several years Chrissy, a sophomore, decided to join the team this season.  Knowing a bit about hockey and knowing how to skate, Chrissy took the ice just a few weeks before our first game. At first Chrissy was a bit uncomfortable skating in the full gear, but that didn’t stop her from participating in drills her first day. Throughout the season, Chrissy attended every practice and was determined to be the best she could. By the end of this one season Chrissy had reached a level that some people reach after several seasons of hockey. Chrissy’s dedication, love for the sport and overall determination made her a great asset to our team.

#48 -- Zorielix Santiago, PHOENIX

Zory’s passion for hockey started 3 years ago. With the help and support of a friend, she began ice-skating and playing street hockey, all while cheering on the North Jersey Phoenix during their inaugural season. She made the transition to ice hockey this year and instantly padded her stats with an assist and two minor penalties. Whether she’s on the ice or off, her dedication and love of the game is seen day in and day out with perfect attendance to all team events including charity and fundraisers. In her free time you can find her encouraging friends to join her at the Prudential Center to cheer on the New Jersey Devils, or at one of the many local rinks pushing her development to play even harder as she focuses in on next season.

#2 -- Alison Taylor, AU

When Ali joined our team, she was new to the school, new to the ice, new to hockey.  Like many rookies, she dedicated herself - learning fast, trying hard and quickly becoming an important part of the squad.  UNLIKE many rookies, Ali was learning the game on a team that lost all of its players. Not only asked to learn the game, Ali was tasked with being an essential team member, and fast.  She did.  Ali rose to the occasion, coming to all practices, taking all shifts and improving every day.  We couldn't have had a season without her.  We also couldn't have had as much fun without her as a teammate.  In her final game of the season Ali scored her first goal ever, and then quickly followed it up with her second.  It was the perfect way to end her 1st season of hockey.  She'd earned those goals and we're lucky to have earned her.
