D2 Sportswoman of the Year

#1 -- Caitlyn Jasberg, AU

Caitlyn is the hockey player every coach wants on their team.  She's one of the fastest learners we've ever seen.  Just last year she started skating for the first time.  This year she was scoring rock star goals (7 pts in 11 games), 2nd most on our entire team.  Beyond the dedication to improve herself, Caitlyn does everything to improve the team.  She learned (and ROCKED) goalie when the team needed one because of injury.  She's at every event, every practice, every game.  She organizes the team off the ice, attends every fundraiser and even volunteered for the DVCHC to run playoffs.  When facing opposition, Caitlyn never has anything bad to say and in 2 years has never gone to the box.  She's a true sportsman, a talented athlete, an essential leader and a great person who's 100% dedicated to our game of hockey.

#2 -- Lila Livingston, COLUMBIA

A Montana native, Lila is one of the hardest working hockey players I have ever seen, period.  She was welcomed onto our team during the second half of the season, and we were beyond fortunate to have her.  From her first game with Columbia, Lila made her enthusiasm known, shouting encouragement and cheering her brand new teammates from the bench. On the ice, Lila’s speed and game sense helped motivate, and inspire, all of those around her.  Her talents are enviable.  Lila not only plays the game hard, she also plays the game with such grace and true class.

#18 -- Kelly Monahan, SJU

Kelly is one of the most positive and encouraging people to come through this team. Every game, Kelly would show up with a smile on her face because she was genuinely excited to be there. No matter what was going on outside of hockey and regardless of the intensity of the game, Kelly stayed level headed and just played hockey. When games became rough or a bit out of hand, Kelly constantly reminded us all to remain respectful and composed and to play how we normally would play. Most of the time she’d crack a joke to lighten the mood. Kelly could get thrown around left and right, but her attitude wouldn’t change. The positivity and leadership of players like Kelly is what keeps hockey how it should be.  Every team should have a player like Kelly.

#35 -- Shannon Smith, PHOENIX

Shannon’s personality is the main attribute towards her high level of sportsmanship. Currently in her studies to become a nurse, you can always find her looking to help out an injured player on the ice, or giving tips on how to stretch before or after a game when you may be sore or hurting. Shannon is a warm-hearted player who plays her game on a very even keel. She is at the forefront of the team when it comes to being respectful towards her coaches, teammates, and opponents. It is exactly that behavior, in addition to her dedication and attendance to off-ice team events that earned her an assistant captain position this season. In addition to this, she is also Phoenix’s Vice-President and she was one of our DVCHC New Star representatives last year in Hershey.

#16 -- Maria Sorce, IUP

Maria has been with the team for 5 years, starting in college. Maria had no points this year but was voted assistant captain. Throughout the season, Maria had been positive, upbeat, and had treated every player the same. She is considered to have the most sportsmanship on the team because she not only treats her own team with respect but other teams as well. She was always the first one to go to the other team’s bench to wish them luck.
