Voted by the team as Rookie of the Year, Shanon had never played hockey and hadn’t figure skated since 8th grade. After she learned what icing was, she became a huge asset to the team.
At practice, Shanon wanted to learn how to learn more while playing hard for the team. She went public skating each weekend with hockey skates to increase her hockey sense and balance. She earned a spot on the regular line, and played on the shorthanded line by her second game. She consistently applauds her teammate’s efforts, offers her spot to others less skilled, and is the epitome of a “team first” player.
Playing Defense most of the season, she had to play Offense in the playoffs due to orders for our personnel. Fighting the flu throughout the Playoff weekend, Shanon showed others what dedication to her team meant when she flawlessly played right wing on the second line. She consistently provided her line an opportunity to score on every shift.
She is acknowledged by our team as the best newcomer on the team and won the fastest skater in the team race. Her tenacity to win the puck and pass to an open player made her the fifth best offensive player on our team in the playoffs.
And she is only a freshman.
Dana is our rookie of the year. She added endurance to the team. She is a quick skater and is aggressive on the ice.
She is also capable of producing goals and assists. She is one of our top back checkers and helps out the defensemen.
Freshman Katrina is a skilled defenseman from Boston, MA. She has been a key aspect to our Defense. Her solid skating and puck handling skills have enabled us to be very strong defensively.
Her kind attitude, positive spirit, and strong commitment to the team have contributed nicely to the overall team dynamic. It is with great pleasure that we have chosen her as the nomination for the Rookie Award for our 2010-2011 Season.
Sophomore Megan is a powerful forward from Chicago, IL. She has made her first season with us a memorable one. She has proven to be a key player on her line, as well as in our Power Play Line.
More importantly, she has gelled nicely with the team, and is always willing to offer words of encouragement to others, as well as to strive to improve her own game. It is with great pleasure that we have chosen her as the nomination of the Rookie Award for our 2010-2011 Season.
Melissa will be one of the top, if not the top player in the league next
year. She started out as a defense woman this year and performed solidly at that position.
Towards the end of the year we moved her to forward as we needed more offense. She performed brilliantly getting several goals but more importantly showing leadership in her ability to set up plays and drive the net.
