D2 Outstanding Defensewoman

Ella Starr -- USNA

.

Ella Starr has played defense for many years. She is an instant plus when our team hits the ice, as one of the six players with hockey experience, her defensive skills and prowess, skill set and smarts as a playmaker, helped the team get to the playoffs. Her offensive skills as a defense woman proved to be the winning goal with 6 seconds left in the g

Ella is the hardest working defender in the league. Her 20 minutes of penalties is a result of her protecting her goalie, but she also excelled on shorthanded situations resulted in a plus 5 for the season, and on power play, the result was 3 power play goals. My point is, any team that plays against her, has a hard time getting a shot to the net.

Ella has helped many of the newer players. Her repertoire with the other members of the team has made her teammates seek her out in drills, in games, and in off ice activities. She is a wonderful young women who puts her team first, her teammates second, and then her own priorities. She was voted our outstanding Defense women by our team.

Allie Nunn -- IUP

Allie is the cornerstone of the IUP women's hockey program. Not only is she a strong and talented hockey play but she also serves as general manager organizing 90% of all activities.

I do not believe that there is a better defensewoman in this league.

Allie Zube -- SRU

Alli is our top defenseman she plays every game with her all. She blocks shots and protects our goalie.

She is also one of our top goal scorers with 7 goals this season. She is also a play maker and had 6 assists this season.

Allison Dilyard -- CU

Allie is a strong defenseman and has proved herself as an asset to our team as a whole. She assisted in scoring goals for our team as well as stopping them.

Although she is not the biggest player on the team, her speed and toughness more than make up for her size. Her work ethic in practice and in games definitely contributed to our successes this season.

Lauren Docktor -- VU

Sophomore Lauren a.k.a. “Dock” is by far one of the best players that our club has seen throughout its five year history.  Hailing from Boston, MA, she brings so much to our team both on and off the ice.  A solid skater, she serves as one of our prominent Defensemen, however she is also notorious for releasing her wicked slap shot, which rattles opposing goalies, and most of the times results in a goal or wreaks havoc on the defense.

Dock has been a wonderful asset to the team the past two seasons.  She brings a wealth of knowledge with her about the game, as well as her truly team player attitude.  She is always there to greet her teammates with a funny line, a smile, or words of encouragement.  It is with great honor that we have selected her as the Outstanding D for our 2010-2011 Season.
