D1 Most Valuable Player

#9 -- Megan Cooper, CAL U

Megan came in as a promising young star last season as a freshman and quickly adapted to college hockey. She developed quickly playing on a line often with former stand-out and program history leading scorer, Tiffany Juha, and worked her way up as a top 3 forward last year.

This year, Megan stepped up and filled in the gap with missing key players from last year's team and assumed her role remarkably well earning 14 goals and 9 assists for 23 points in 19 games while being a plus 20 and having a team high 3 PP goals and 2 game winning goals.

Megan Cooper is getting better with each season's play and we will be looking to her next year to step up and assume an even greater amount of responsibility.

#30 -- Lauren Hutchinson, AU

As the team's only goalie, Lauren fought through sickness, injury & her insane senior courseload to be there for her team.  She wouldn't think of missing a game.  Even when diagnosed with a severe concussion she wanted to play the next day.  The whole team had to refuse to play with her before she agreed -- she didn't want to let anyone down.

Far from it.  In her time at American, Lauren has boosted our team and our spirits each & every day, on and off the ice.  We're in awe of her "sassy" strength, her mater of fact leadership, her ability to watch over an entire team all at once and care for players in trouble.  She holds the team together, keeps them accountable...then gets them laughing.

Lauren's butterfly has improved to nothing short of fantastic and helped her make more saves than any other goalie in the DVCHC this season (415).  We've never had the veterans in front of her to give her the stats she deserves, but Lauren still managed to put on a one-woman show each night.

She's one of the best goalies around.  Coaches & players are always quick to point it out & we couldn't agree more, but Lauren is more than that.  She's a leader, a source of strength, a hilarious teammate, dedicated competitor and a friend.  Our MVP.

#25 -- Stephanie Johnson, UMD

Anyone who watches the Terps can tell that the mood of the game changes every time #25 Stephanie Johnson gets on the ice. She brings more heart and passion to the game than any other player on the team.

What really defines Stephanie is her drive to succeed no matter the personal cost, and the will to see the game through to the very end regardless of the score. Stephanie is a player who will take the nitty-gritty jobs and execute them flawlessly and without complaint. Whether it's shadowing an opponent or backchecking hard, Stephanie always gives one hundred and ten percent and inspires her teammates to do the same.

Her composure as a center also helps to keep the team focused on the ice, and her ability to read and react to plays ensures that Maryland can work through any kinks that pop up. As an assistant captain, Stephanie continues to lead by example and never demands more from the team than she is willing to do herself.

#41 -- Christy Paschutca, SRU

Christy had an incredible breakout season with the Rock this year. Leading the team in both points (31) and goals (27), she was the dominating force in Slippery Rock’s offense. She boasted four games with four or more goals each and scored points in every single regular season game other the Rock’s 0-0 stalemate against UD. Finishing second in the DVCHC in goals, and third in points and points per game average (2.38), Christy promises to be a league leader in years to come for the Rock.

A leader both on and off the ice, Christy’s talent and experience were called upon by coaches and teammates alike throughout the Rock’s successful season. She was always willing to give her input at crucial points in the game, and her leadership was evident. Her team high plus/minus (+19) makes it clear that she is a well rounded player both offensively and defensively. With her natural talent and dedication, Christy will certainly go on to lead the Rock to victory after victory for the rest of her career at SRU.

#11 -- Brie Scolaro, UD

Brie has been the backbone of our team since her freshman year.  She has helped us accomplish so much in just four years, not just with her talent, but also with her positive attitude on and off the ice.

We
can always count on her to keep us in the game, and she has shown us just what a true leader should be.

#14 -- Alyssa Spratte, VU

Alyssa, Junior, represents what the great qualities of a captain and leader should be. She lead her team both on and off the ice and was always there to make a big play, or lend a hand to a teammate struggling. Alyssa was there to help develop the skill of not only the new girls, but some of the more experienced girls as well. During a season that saw many ups and downs, Alyssa was one of our most consistent players and always could be relied upon to go out on the ice in all situations.

Her skill, strong knowledge of the game, versatility, along with great personality makes her a valuable asset to me as a coach. Whenever there was a issue with the team, Alyssa was always there to help smooth things over and set things straight, like a good captain and leader should.

This was my first season as coach of the Villanova Womens team and I was able to go to her with any question, comment, or concern regarding on or off ice issues. I am happy to have her return next season and I am very proud to call myself her coach. It is my honor to nominate her as our MVP.

#22 -- Karine Thibault, WCU

When you think of L'Orignal, Ontario you automatically think French Canadians, windy weather that would knock your socks off, and intense Ice Hockey.  Well we have a player that covers two of these aspects, Her name, Karine Thibault, but to us she is known as, “ Tebow”.

Coming in to our hockey club and University within this past spring semester from Minnesota State College Tebow changed the monument and passion for the team overall from the very first day she entered our lockeroom, let alone show us how hockey is done in Ontario and Minnesota.

Karine showed strong integrity and mental toughness in every aspect of what it means to be a true hockey player. Her French assent gave the team a little diversity, and her advice and precise words within her hockey knowledge showed that she corresponded with her heart and care

Her skating ability could be contingent to a lighting bolt, fast, striking, and with force. The understanding of systems could be understood from even the fans within the stands, and to everyone in the arena, Tebow was the paint to an endless plate of ice.

To the team, Karine has become someone that everyone is any perceptive looks up to.  The way she carries herself with ease lets others know that she is genuinely a person that for the sport of Ice Hockey, ease is something that is needed when making that strong shot, when breaking the play out, and when setting up when of your teammates for an amazing goal. This is why Karine Thibault is our Most Valuable Player.

#8 -- Kerry Wilson, UVA

No other player in UVa history has had the impact that this one player has had on our team.

Obviously, she is a prolific scorer. She has scored a league-leading 39 points in the regular season (32G, 7A, +30), including 6 GWGs of the 7 regular-season wins UVa had this year.  Kerry also scored 12 points (8G, 4A, including 1 GWG) in the playoffs, securing her title of UVa’s 2012 Playoff MVP.

Besides putting up incredible numbers, Kerry is also a tenacious leader.  She has had a tremendous impact on practices, incorporating numerous high-level drills to improve players’ individual skills and team tactics.  Her leadership has improved the play of many of the members on the team as seen in the increase of points produced by our top lines.

Kerry has also been one of the most lucrative fund-raisers this team has had in over 8 years.  She has raised over $2500 this year for the team, approximately 35% of the total amount raised.  It is with great pride that I nominate Kerry Wilson for DVCHC D1 MVP.
