DVCHC Founders Award

The 2019 Founders Award Winners - Sarah Jane Graham (Villanova) & Amanda Grisanti (Lafayette)

Sarah Jane Graham - Villanova

Sarah Jane is the president of the team for the second year and is captain. With 7 players graduating this past season Sarah Jane recruited freshman to join the team at both Villanova Candidate’s Days and Activities Fair. This team was thought to be a transition year, but instead the team had more success than what was predicted. Sarah Jane has kept the team together for the past two seasons by being the key communicator between the DVCHC, ACHA, and the school. She is in charge of making sure that the team gets to and from each game, finding scorekeepers for each game, staying in contact with other teams, and reserving all ice slots for the team. In the 2017-2018 season she had the task of finding a new coach for the team, Brian Hoppy, who has done an excellent job helping to coach the team the past two seasons with Laura Webb. As captain, she makes sure the entire team has their heads in the game and that the team plays as one. Sarah Jane’s first on the ice first off the ice attitude is contagious and is someone new members of the team quickly look up to. She has been able to balance ice hockey with Chemical Engineering all four years, only missing one game. Her passion and dedication for ice hockey is going to be missed next season and she has definitely left her mark on the team and the program as a whole.

Amanda Grisanti - Lafayette

Amanda almost singlehandly navigated the burocracy, paperwork, and hurdles to start the women’s team at Lafayette! Without her we would not exist. She began working on creating this team her freshman year and persevered until we first stepped on the ice last year and beyond! She’s created a lasting legacy for women’s sports at Lafayette and ice hockey on this campus.

Amanda worked tirelessly and mostly alone since her freshman year to found the Lafayette College Women's club team just last year as a junior. Now that we are really getting off the ground in our second year, I have confidence for the continuation of the team!

Amanda founded this team after lots of hard work.  She has put her all into creating this team as a place that welcomes players of all levels.  She recognizes that not everyone has had the ability or chance to play hockey before and shares her love for this sport and really excites others to get involved.  This team wouldn't have been possible without Amanda and as someone who has never had the chance to play hockey before this team was created at Lafayette, I am forever in debt to her.

Nominees

Amanda Blackmar & Emily Coughlin - Loyola Maryland

These two have been inseparable from the moment they got on campus, and it's a good thing, because we needed both of them to keep the ship afloat after losing a long-term set of leaders to graduation. We're past the point of wondering whether we will have enough players to sustain what we've built, and past the point of wondering if leaders will be in order. But it says a lot about these two players who got us to this point.

Kelli Hambleton - Rowan

As previously stated for Kelli, there will never be another player more dedicated to growing our program, doing everything that needs to be done behind the scenes and making the whole season a success on and off the ice the way Kelli has done the last 4 years. Thank you will never be enough to explain the gratitude coach Dan and I have for Kelli.

Eve Phelps - UPENN

Eve, a senior, began her hockey career by learning to skate her freshman year. It takes courage to not only enroll in one of the more academically challenging Universities in the world, let alone take up one of the harder sports to learn. She has been one of the most passionate leaders in our program, holding board positions since her second year. Eve went as far to fully redesign the digital footprint of Penn Women’s Hockey (website, social media, outreach, etc.). As team President, she took on additional responsibility within the University by leading the Executive Board of the Sports Clubs Council. Here, Eve advised other sports in their governance, helping to expand their footprint, and to increase their student and alumni participation. Having never taken a penalty, Eve has done everything in her power to help our team win. In Eve’s four seasons, she amassed 2 goals and 11 assists. Her highest point total came this season with 1 goal and 6 assists.

Lindsay Lickers - UVA

Lindsay is the one person you can always find at the rink, all the time always practicing to get better. She started playing hockey when she started college and she is always working hard. She is an integral part of the defensive core, and is our "Iron Woman" always able to play as long as we need her too back on D. When we had the rink in Charlottesville, Lindsay could always be found there and she was a huge part of our ability to get ice time in Richmond this year.
