D1 Rookie of the Year

#15 -- Hayley Aubin, UVA

-Hayley took the team by storm this year. She quickly became one of our top players. She plays with a lot of maturity for a freshman, and will be a powerhouse by her fourth year.

Hayley came right in and played amazingly right from the start. She always gets the job done with a smile and a positive attitude. Watching her play is incredible, she makes unbelievable shots and always seems to know what to do with the puck.

-Hayley brought more than just endless goals to the team. She's sweet, caring, and incredibly friendly, and stepped up to be treasurer in a time of need.

-Hayley should be the rookie of the year because she is an outstanding player and a very important one even though she is just a first year. She is strong on and off the ice. She skates her heart out when it is her shift and is a role model for the less experienced players.

Hayley Aubin is a superstar in the making. She makes scoring look easy no matter how ridiculous her snipe shot was. After top-shelfing the puck, she'll skate away as if nothing happened because she can do that at any point she wishes to. She also makes playing wing look easy, which is certainly is not. Even a bad breakout pass will be successful if it's going to Hayley.

-Hayley crushed it on our team this year! She is super speedy and her experience was extremely beneficial to our team. I am happy that our team has her, as she is a huge contributing factor to our wins.

#13 -- Claire Daly, UPENN

Claire was not our rookie of the year because of her stats on the ice, but because of how hard and smart she worked every single game. When Claire took the ice, game plans were executed almost perfectly, forechecks were effective, defensive zone coverage was fantastic, and offensive chances were numerous. She just had that ability to make things go right on the ice. She forced the opposing team to make the wrong choices with her aggressive pressure and staggering height, and made good choices with the puck to keep plays alive. I remember her bowling through the players of the opposing team to drive into the zone. It was by no means elegant or pretty, but instead tough and gritty. Claire Daly is what us hockey folk call a grinder. She worked hard for every inch of ice she took and every shot on net. Most importantly, she played that way every single shift.

#5 -- Lindsay Gioioso, LOYOLA

Early in the season, as we were breaking in new goalies who had never even skated before, many players took it easy when it came to shooting. It was only when we had our goalie coach suit up that we learned of the talent we had on the team. Lindsay lit him up.

Our joint-leading scorer with 27 points and a team-leading 19 goals, Lindsay was a talisman for our success. When she scored, we were competitive. She was fearless on the ice, sometimes too much so, and still willing to sacrifice her scoring to step back and play defense in a pinch. By the time her career is done, Lindsay will be one of the top players in the league.

#15 -- Megan McNeill, TOWSON

Megan had 12 goals and 11 assist for 23 points in 10 games and had a plus/minus of 26 with 3 game winning goals.  She was an important part of the team as she stepped in and became a forechecking and backchecking machine in a system that demands defense first and it certainly resulted in plenty of offense for the team.  She definitely made her mark as a freshman on a team with one of the most aggressive offenses. She has great puck awareness and stepped right up to each challenge she faced.  Although she suffered a concussion in one of the last games of the season and could not play in playoffs, her presence on the bench encouraged the team through every game. Megan has many more years with the team and we cannot wait to see what the following seasons have in store.

#13 -- Hannah Pereira, NAVY

Hannah came to the Naval Academy from Michigan, and stepped in to center our starting line.  She is an amazing hockey player, and has great hands.  She quickly established herself as an all-star, and we are excited to have her for three more years.  Freshman year at the Naval Academy is tough; lack of sleep, and an overburdened schedule with military and academic obligations can sometimes make it difficult for Freshmen to fully commit to team sports.  Yet, Hannah has played over 30 regular season games, and two post-season tournaments.  She has been critical to our success this season in both the DVCHC and the ECWHL (ACHA Div I).
