D2 Most Valuable Player

#22 -- Sammi Erne, AU

This has been a difficult season for our team.  Through it all Sammi has been there, helping to lead the way.  She transitioned to defense, for the team.  She took on the role of president, for the team.  She's worked tirelessly on and off the ice to keep our season going.  Of course she was one of only 5 players we had in a weekend showcase.  Of course she volunteered to staff the DVCHC playoffs.  Sammi has been the hardworking face of our team and the reason we're still on the ice.  As a player, her defensive work has become essential and she was good for 6 points in 12 games from the blueline - a lot for a season that saw only 2 wins.  Sammi is our savior this season, a great teammate and a fun-loving bump for everyone around her.  MVP!

#5 -- Nikole Gregoris, IUP

Nikole is an education major and has been on the team for her 4 years at IUP. She, in total, has been playing for 11 years, most of which have been with the Bethlehem Blast. For the last two years she has been assistant captain. Her sophomore year she was treasurer, junior year vice president and this year she was voted president. Nikole had 5 goals and 2 assists this season making her second on the team with points. The last two games, Nikole had truly shown what a fantastic player she really is by earning majority of her points in those games. She not only had a great season playing but on and off the ice had a great attitude and was able to create many scoring opportunities which have deemed her the most valuable player.

#15 -- Kathleen Marinzulich, SJU

We have decided to make Kathleen Marinzulich this year’s MVP because she has displayed great skill and dedication throughout the 2014-2015 season. During this past season, Kathleen has given her all on and off the ice. This year was her second year as President of Saint Joseph’s Women’s Club Ice Hockey and she has worked her hardest to make this season memorable for our team. This year she had 4 goals and 2 assists, which is not always an easy feat when you’re a defenseman. She skates hard during every practice and game and her talent is hard to miss when she is out on the ice. Kathleen has brought great value to our team, and for this we find her to be more than deserving of this award.

#31 -- Lauren Solski, PHOENIX

Starting her second year as Phoenix President and goaltender, Lauren had her hopes and expectations set high to bring her team back to the Frozen Fair. She always aims to be the best in her position, and with only one year of experience in net, she has accomplished more than goalies with years of experience. Finishing the regular season with 5 shutouts in Division 2 (Division Leader) and also 1 shutout against a Division 1 team (a 251:43 shutout streak all together) certainly put her at the forefront as the MVP of the team. The team’s confidence is boosted significantly each period that Lauren keeps the opposition at bay. But the work doesn’t stop there for this special player. As President, she works tirelessly to communicate with her team on a 24/7 basis to keep the schedule organized. And when all the league requirements are met, she can be found creating a multitude of fundraisers, publicity events, and miscellaneous scrimmages against local teams.

#9 -- Sylvia Xistris, COLUMBIA

Simply put, Sylvia made everyone around her better.  She is a smart player and she kept people calm during the game.  Sylvia is a dedicated and hard working player.  She is a natural leader both on and off the ice, and she truly exemplifies the meaning of a team player.  Asked to play both forward and defense this year, Sylvia spent most of the second half of the season on the blue-line.   Never once did she protest. It is because of Sylvia’s credible talent, versatility, and commitment to Columbia University Women’s Ice Hockey that she was our Most Valuable Player this past season.
