D1 Most Valuable Player

#12 -- Katie Barbor, UMD

Katie Barbor has been chosen from Terps to represent us in all stars for the last 2 years.  She was first voted as our rookie or the year and then our team MVP.  Katie once again deserves our MVP.

Katie is the type of player who if she decides something needs to get done she is going to do it.  One game this year she was frustrated with how it was going and was talking to herself on the bench about how bad we were playing.  Katie then continues to mumble to herself and says ok I am going to score.  The very next play Katie fulfilled that promise and put it in the back of the net. Katie’s energy and momentum she created shifted the dynamic of the game and the rest of the team followed suit.  Players like that are hard to come by.

She knows just how much to try to do herself without crossing that line of doing to much where it is destructive.  Katie has been a consistent leader in scoring, is our best faceoff person and is a stronghold on power plays and penalty kills.

Katie is an all around player who is able to change the momentum of the game.  She is not selfish but rather selfless.  She may not be the most vocal leader but never stops working and her team follows suit.  Katie’s talent combined with her work effort make her the MVP of the Terps.

#44 -- Brooke Edwards, TOWSON

Brooke has played for the team since the second semester of Towson’s first season.  She has certainly added a spark to the team with her creativity, leadership and dedication.  Brooke has led this team by her example.  She does not always need to lead the team on the scoreboard, but her knowledge of the game and the vision of the ice has contributed greatly to our style of play through puck possession and puck pursuit.  Her fore-check and back-check are keys to our success.  She is creative and willing to work within our system to make her line-mates successful.  Brooke’s most important goal was during the championship game against Maryland. She scored the goal that tied the game with a little over two minutes remaining in the 3rd period. Brooke is a key player who is able to make game changing plays in high pressure situations.

#5 -- Lindsay Gioioso, LOYOLA

Not only is Lindsay a leading point scorer, but after only one season with the team, she was a clear choice to take over a leadership role at the conclusion of Loyola's inaugural season. As a team coming off a difficult season with limited wins in the standings, what made Lindsay our MVP was not just her ability to get points on the board. What makes Lindsay our most valuable player is her infectious determination to improve and for us to be our best team.

Whether it was from the bench, during practice or in the locker room, Lindsay pushed her teammates to work hard, and most importantly, to work together. It's easy to give up on yourself and on your team after a loss, but Lindsay led the charge for our team to be successful this season in more ways than wins. After losing a handful of skilled players last year, we were faced with the task of building up a new, young team. The difference between a win and a loss is certainly based on points, but the difference between a team that stands a chance to advance is a leader like Lindsay who never stopped skating and constantly rose to the occasion of lifting up her teammates.

#22 -- Alexa Jaume, UPENN

Alexa “How May” Jaume was an integral part of our team both on and off the ice throughout this season. From practices to games, she never failed to bring 110% and was truly a clutch player in every sense of the word.

A versatile and explosive defensewoman, she could single-handedly break up an opponent’s scoring opportunity, skate the puck out of the defensive zone, and hit the back of the net in what seemed like the blink of an eye. When waiting between shifts, she was always shouting encouragement to her teammates - most often her go-to tip was to “TAKE THE BODY!” You wouldn’t believe the volume that came from her tiny stature.

Besides being an amazing talent, Alexa brought out the best in all our players, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned veteran. She without a doubt deserves the recognition as Penn’s Most Valuable Player for leading by example and being an inspiration to our team.

#17-- Laura Loeser, VIL

Laura deserves MVP for many reasons. Not only was her crazy fun attitude contagious and even after losing games she always managed to cheer everyone up and give us all a good cackle but she also was an incredible asset to the team this year. She may not be an official captain, but people sure look up to her. Whether seniors or freshmen, Laura is constantly being approached for advice on and off the ice. Laura is the smartest hockey player on the team, she knows how to approach each individual game. During the regular season, she played defensive offense knowing that we had a new goalie, but man when it came time for playoffs, she knew we needed goals as our goalie could handle the net now, and that’s exactly what she did. As her linemate, I found myself watching Laura dangle around the team and score like it was nothing and hustle back to help out our defense too. I was in awe at her performance this year, but especially at playoffs. One of my favorite plays by Laura was she went down, dangled all five of their players, scored, tripped and went head first into the boards. As we all rushed to her, she asked me to make sure it went in. We went back to the opening faceoff, amazed she was still in the game after that hit, I won the faceoff, she picked it up and got a break away and scored again. That two minutes shows how she played all season, doing everything in her power to win one for the team.

Laura didn’t show up with a bad attitude to one single game this year. Her personality was contagious and it radiated to the way our team played. Without Laura (and her excellent decision to transfer from UConn) our team hands down would not have done as well as we did or have as much fun as we did this year.

#19 -- Chelsea Phipps, SRU

CHELSEA HAS BEEN THE LEADER OF THIS TEAM SINCE SHE JOINED US THE PAST TWO SEASONS. HER FIRST TWO SEASONS WAS WITH CAL U OF PA.

IT HAS BEEN SUCH A PLEASURE AND A BLESSING FOR THIS TEAM SINCE HER ARRIVAL.

I'VE SEEN HER PICK THIS TEAM UP AND SHOW THEM HOW TO OVERCOME ADVERSITY.  WE HAVE HAD A TOUGH TIME KEEPING GIRLS ON THIS TEAM AND CHELSEA HAS GIVEN THE GIRLS WHO STAYED ON THIS TEAM A PURPOSE TO SUCCEED.

SHE HAS TAKEN THE GIRLS THAT CAN BARELY SKATE AND MAKE PLAYERS OUT OF THEM. SHE HAS HELPED ME PERSONALLY KEEP THIS TEAM AFLOAT BY HELP COACH THESE YOUNGER PLAYERS.

AS YOU HAVE SEEN IN THE PLAYOFFS OF THE SLIPPERY ROCK GIRLS TEAM THAT FOR A SHORT BENCH WE ALMOST PULLED THIS OFF. JUST CAME UP TO SHORT AND ALOT OF COACHING AND STAMINA OF OUR TEAM IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT CHELSEA HELD THIS TEAM TOGETHER THROUGHOUT THE SEASON AND I'M SURE THIS WONT BE THE END OF HER HOCKEY AS I'M SURE SHE WILL BE BACK TO HELP COACH ALONG THE WAY.
