D2 Most Valuable Player

2017 DVCHC D2 MVP OF THE YEAR: JACKIE DENNING!

#14 -- Jackie Denning -- Villanova

Jackie is an all around player on our team. She is a leader in all aspects of the team. She is our leading scorer, while also being a defenseman. Her career stats speak for themselves 110 goals, 46 assists, for 156 points. She has been captain since her sophomore year. She balances hockey and NCAA varsity rowing, practicing for rowing at 4:00 am and hockey at 10:00pm, and somehow still managing a great GPA. Jackie is an inspiration to the team, and leads by example on the ice and balancing all of her commitments. Jackie scored out only goal at the ACHA national tournament, where we represented the DVCHC against the tough competition. In a perfect way to end her historic career here at Villanova, the ACHA named her to the All- American Second Team! This is the organization’s first time having a player named as an All- American and we could not be more proud!

#5 -- Lindsay Gioioso -- Loyola

It’s easy to quantify in many ways how Lindsay was our most valuable, from her team-high 25 points and her versatility on the ice to her dedication off it. Simply put, things would be a lot different without her around.

She has never taken the ice without the sole purpose of carrying our team to victory, and doesn’t let even the biggest deficit cause that to waver. She’d push through exhaustion in the 59th minute of a game to prevent a shutout. She’d work herself to the point of delirium in search of a route back into a game for our team. Our school’s leading scorer has a lot of titles, and MVP is certainly one of them.

#70 -- Lauren Wood -- Towson

Lauren has played for the team since the second semester of our first season.  She firmly planted herself as the wall for the team since the beginning.  Lauren has worked hard and developed her skills as one of the best goalies in the league throughout her career.  But more importantly this year.  This has been a rebuilding year for Towson as we graduated 11 prior players and were building a team with mostly freshman.  Lauren worked hard this year and stepped up to help the team position for another playoff run and ultimately to the Championship game for a 4th consecutive year.  A lot can fall on a goalies shoulders and this year more than any other the team relied on her to keep us in some games and to continue our success.

#1 -- Hanna Shaps -- UVA

Hanna Shaps is this year’s Most Valuable Player for many reasons. This season, Hanna returned to the team after a two-year hiatus and volunteered to play as goalie when the team did not have one. Although she had no prior goalie experience, Hanna stepped up to the plate by putting in extra effort to improve outside of team practices, and was always a good sport when times got tough. Off the ice, Hanna has used her passion for economics and worked as the team’s treasurer, saving the team from potential financial disaster, helping to organize away weekends, and interacting with rink employees.

#66 -- Taylor Bright -- SRU

If you're looking for Taylor Bright, it's your best bet to find her on the ice.  She split time with us and her travel team.  She would go to their practice and come straight to ours after at a different rink.  She never gave up on the ice and was a great leader for our team this year.  Choosing her as our captain was a no-brainer because she has so much enthusiasm for the game of hockey, it makes us all want to be better players.
