D2 Top Scorer

#23 -- Alyssa Agati, RU

Alyssa was the leading scorer in the league this year, leading the league in goals (17), assists (6), tying for +/- (22), and the most points (23).

Simply put Alyssa was tenacious and driven; she would not be denied. Her aggressive style of play coupled with her hockey skills and skating style were nothing short of impressive.

She gave her heart and soul to Rutgers Women’s Hockey this season, as well as to the DVCHC. It truly was a pleasure to have the opportunity to coach her this season.  As a result she was awarded as being the best player in the league according to her stats. I believe it is only fitting that the league recognizes her accomplishment with the High Scorer Award.

#13 -- Kristina Harter, UPENN

Playing as the team’s starting center, co-captain and co-president of the team, and excelling at one of the top Ivy League schools in the nation; Kristina displayed why she is the Most Valuable Player in the league.

Kristina was constantly the first girl at the locker room and always had her pads on ready to hit the ice when the time came. Having Kristina in the locker room, on the bench and most importantly on the ice; the difference was noticeable.

Last season, the UPenn women’s ice hockey team did not win a single game. When I met with Kristina during the summer of 2011; she told them that things need to and will change come the upcoming season. I gave her my word that I would try my best to coach the team to become successful. The motivation in Kristina’s eye’s should have been captured through a lens.

Knowing how badly Kristina wanted to win the upcoming season; I knew she was going to be ready. But the way she got the girls ready for a game and how she made plays on the ice every single game…priceless and remarkable.

We lost Kristina for one game during the season due to a family obligation back in her hometown of Michigan. We played Columbia, who at the time was undefeated. We lost that game, as we had no offensive pressure whatsoever. The next game Kristina was back, we played Columbia again…we came flying out of the gates and Kristina led the way. It was magical. Kristina had two goals and two assists during a 5-2 victory.

Kristina was a huge factor in making players around her much better; as we marched in to the play-offs…Kristina carried us to the championship game. Kristina is the gasoline to our team. Without her, our team would be skating on fumes. Kristina Harter is far and beyond this year’s league Most
Valuable Player.

#2 -- Jenny In, SJU

This player is our secret weapon.  Jenny is the Energizer Bunny of our offensive team.  She skates her heart out and works hard in the offensive zone.  She was our leader in overall points and has been a great player to coach and a great teammate to the other players.

Jenny has had about 2 years of ice hockey experience and has greatly improved from the time she first started.  Throughout the season she developed a great sense of the defensive aspect to the game and it has been awesome to watch her grow into a very versatile player.

Even though Jenny may be quiet off of the ice, she steps into her zone the moment she laces up in the locker room.  She shows up ready to skate and play hard and has broken out of her quiet shell and really started to encourage the other players to do just the same.

#9 -- Wei Leong, CU

#7 -- Samantha Stewart, CU

Wei has been an important asset to our defense and offense, having earned the most points on our team as a defenseman. She has shown outstanding effort and dedication as an administrative leader off the ice and a defensive leader on the ice.

Wei has worked hard this season to keep Columbia in the game in league standings as the newest club and she has done a fine job in helping Columbia make its mark on the DVCHC.

Samantha Stewart often saved the team from tricky situations with her dazzling offensive plays. She is a smart player that takes initiative, leading the offense through plays that not only result in goals, but also a greater knowledge of the game. Her ability to see the game as a whole and make key decisions is reflected in her points total for the season.

#4 -- Abby Shaw, IUP

Abbey has led our team in scoring for the second straight year, averaging just over two points per game. Abbey is a solid player with excellent puck handling, skating, and shooting skills. She has an uncanny ability to find the open ice and back of the net.

Abbey is an integral part of our power play and penalty kill. She is our team leader in points, goals, and plus-minus.  Abbey is dedicated, hard working and driven to succeed.
